4.30

Examination: Observing the trend of the preceding text, it explains the principles of our own school without the intention of confronting other schools. What fault is there in explaining that they follow one's own assertions based on the seventh and eighth consciousnesses? If one says that the preceding text is entirely directed against others and therefore excludes the seventh and eighth, then in determining the essence of consciousness-nutriment, it should also only be six; why then does it state that the eighth is its essence? Hence, it is certain that the preceding text was spoken by oneself in relation to the seventh and eighth, and this principle is without error.
