Explanation: Pratyavekṣā-jñāna has powerful function and subsumes many virtues. The supernormal knowledge of psychic powers arises taking external dust as object, resembling the five consciousnesses, so it is mostly within kṛtyānuṣṭhāna-jñāna. 'Continuum' refers to the body; being within the body of one who has extinguished contaminants, it is termed 'extinction of contaminants', and therefore subsumed under the four jñānas. If taking the dharma of nirvāṇa with contaminants extinguished as its object, it is called 'extinction of contaminants', and thus is subsumed under samatā-jñāna and ādarśa-jñāna. These two have strong capacity in taking true reality as object, and furthermore these two jñānas possess complete nirvāṇa. The quotation examined in the Commentary contains an error; one should follow the present account.
