This is fully explained in the Commentary. Furthermore, the Āgama-sūtras say: There are śramaṇas and brāhmaṇas who hold such views and propound such theories. The first says: 'This self of mine consists of the four great elements, is born of father and mother, and is nourished by food and drink; yet it is impermanent.' The second says: 'This [gross] self cannot be called annihilation; my [self] in the heavens of the desire realm is annihilated without remainder.' The third [says]: 'This is not annihilation; [the self] born apparitionally in the form realm, possessing all sense faculties, is annihilated without remainder.' The fourth [says]: 'This is not annihilation; my [self] in the sphere of infinite space is annihilated, up to the sphere of neither-perception-nor-non-perception.' All of them establish the subsequent, not the preceding, as annihilation.
