Question: Being born in the upper eight [stages] as appropriate shows that it is not determined that they attain the fourth dhyāna; does this not contradict the Abhidharmasamuccaya-bhāṣya? The ninth fascicle of that treatise presents a fourfold proposition, saying: If one has already separated from desire of the form realm, can all enter the tranquil liberation-absorption of the formless realm? If one is able to enter the tranquil liberation-absorption of the formless realm, has everyone already separated from desire of the form realm?
