上來已破薩婆多訖，自下經部為伏救義。我宗說彼亦是非情，然造業時，熏習種子，在內識故，可不離識，令得果時，其獄卒等識外大種，轉變差別，不在識中，與餘宗異。或重抑薩婆多，令有熏習。然前解勝，以薩婆多無熏習故。

The refutation of the Sarvāstivāda above is finished; below is the Sautrāntika's latent rescue argument: 'Our school says that these are also insentient; however, when karma is created, the perfuming of seeds resides in internal consciousness, so it may be not separate from consciousness; but when the result is obtained, the transformations and distinctions of the great elements of those hell-wardens and the like outside consciousness do not reside in consciousness, which differs from other schools.' Or, it may be an additional pressing of the Sarvāstivāda to compel them to accept perfuming. However, the former interpretation is superior, because the Sarvāstivāda does not hold perfuming.
