The Commentary says: Within the first section, the fourth part below refutes the other systems' claim that external objects are truly existent, proving and knowing that there is only consciousness. In this there are three parts: first, the Hīnayāna and others raise a question based on what came before; next, from 'The verse says' below, the treatise master directly refutes them; finally, from 'Having already explained that paramāṇus are not single and real' below, it concludes by returning to vijñapti-mātra. This is the first part: it first cites the intention previously stated by the Mahāyāna, and only then presents the objection. The treatise master previously said: 'Relying on those who are to enter the selflessness of sentient beings, the Buddha spoke of the ten [āyatanas] of form and so forth.' Now it cites this: 'How is it known that relying on such an intentional meaning he spoke of the existence of the āyatanas of form and so forth?'
