華言藏識，能含藏諸種故；又具三藏義故，謂能藏、所藏、執藏也；與雜染互為緣故，有情執為自內我故。由斯三義，而得藏名，藏即識也。

In Chinese this is rendered as 'storehouse consciousness' (藏識), because it can store all seeds; furthermore, it possesses the threefold meaning of 'storehouse', namely: storing agent (能藏), that which is stored (所藏), and that which is attached to as a storehouse (執藏); because it serves mutually as cause with defilement, and sentient beings grasp it as their inner self. Due to these three meanings it obtains the name 'storehouse', and the storehouse is itself consciousness.
