三、於性分位差別建立一種者，解云：「此是命根，謂依阿賴耶識能持眾同分，四大諸根不壞，則於阿賴耶識相應心、心所法上假立命根，此則通心、心所有法上假；若在欲、色二界，通色上假；若在無色界，唯心、心所有法上假。」

Third: concerning 'establishing one kind upon distinctions in the state of nature', the explanation says: "This is the life-faculty. On the basis of the ālaya-vijñāna being capable of sustaining the generic similarity so that the four great elements and the various sense-faculties do not deteriorate, the life-faculty is nominally established upon the citta and caitta-dharmas associated with the ālaya-vijñāna. This is nominally established generally upon citta and caitta-dharmas; in the desire and form realms, it is nominally established generally upon rūpa as well; in the formless realm, it is nominally established solely upon citta and caitta-dharmas."
