Question: "Since an example also establishes the thesis and can accord and assist, why is it not called a reason?" Answer: "An example means an illustration; correctly speaking, it is called 'seeing the limit' (dṛṣṭānta). It causes the meaning to be established to see its limit, to be completely fulfilled; hence it is called 'seeing the limit'. Although it also accords and assists, it is not the primary explanation of the thesis's rationale. By being the direct, primary establishment, it obtains this name 'reason'; the example establishes it indirectly and subsequently, and does not receive the designation 'reason'. Therefore, this reason is not called 'seeing the limit', because when stating the reason, the meaning is not yet established. This will be understood later."
