第三、自性亦名所別，差別亦名為能別者，立敵所許，不諍先陳，諍先陳上有後所說。以後所說別彼先陳，不以先陳別於後，先自性名為所別，後陳差別名為能別。

Third, regarding the [fact that] the intrinsic nature is also called the qualificand (viśeṣya) and the distinction is also called the qualifier (viśeṣaṇa): that which is accepted by both the proponent and opponent without dispute is stated first; the dispute concerns the subsequent predicate [predicated] of what was stated first. Because what is stated subsequently qualifies what was stated first, and what was stated first does not qualify what is subsequent, what comes first, the intrinsic nature, is termed the qualificand, and what is stated subsequently, the distinction, is termed the qualifier.
