2.68

述曰：自教有二：一、若立所師對他異學自宗承教。二、若不顧立隨所成教。今此但舉自宗承教，對他異學。凡所競理必有據憑，義既乖於自宗，所競何有憑據？

The Commentary explains: One's own doctrine has two [aspects]: First, when establishing what one's master teaches against another, rival school, it is the doctrine inherited by one's own school. Second, when not attending to [one's own tradition], one establishes according to whatever doctrine is acknowledged. Here, we merely take the doctrine inherited by one's own school as presented against another, rival school. Whenever an argument is contested, there must be a basis; if the thesis contradicts one's own school, what basis could there be for the contest?
