Question: "If so, when water, fire, earth, and the like are really transformed, do they have the functions of moistening, heating, and so forth, or not?" Answer: "Although they have the functions, they do not burn the mind and so on. But within what is spontaneously transformed, there is the svalakṣaṇa of the entity of fire; the meditative mind is likewise." Question: "The real cognition of the tactile sense organ and [the meditative mind] both grasp the svalakṣaṇa of fire; why is there a difference between burning and not burning?" Answer: "Fire has subtle and intense degrees; hence there is the difference of burning and not burning."
