Question: "There are four contradictions; why state first the reason [contradicting] the own-nature of the property?" Answer: "Because it is what is directly in dispute. In the inference-contradiction (anumāna-bādha) and the inconclusive through contradiction (viruddhāvyabhicārin) above, both state only that own-nature of the property; hence it is stated first following them. Here there are two masters: as when the Śabdakāryavāda establishes the thesis that sound is permanent with the reason 'because of being produced', and the Śabdābhivyaktivāda establishes it with the reason 'because of arising immediately after an effort'."
