Question: 'Since existence-ness is the own-character of the subject, and existence-ness apart from substance is its qualification, the reason "possessing one substance" is then a reason for the qualification of the subject. How can it now be called a fault against the own-character?' Answer: 'That school intends existence-ness apart from substance, which is truly a qualification; but since the explicitly uttered existence-ness is the own-character, now negating this explicit utterance is precisely contradicting the own-character. Therefore it is a fault against the own-character, not a reason regarding a qualification. Were it not so, universally established subjects would all lack this fault, because of contradicting one's own school.'
