大乘起信論義疏 1.41

1.41

問曰：何故上中八識，為生死體？今此何故，妄心為體？答：近體者，妄心是也；若遠由者，真識亦是。

Question: Why did the previous [part] take the eight consciousnesses as the essence of saṃsāra, while here it takes the deluded mind as the essence? Answer: As for the proximate essence, it is the deluded mind; if one speaks of the distant origin, true consciousness is also it.
