1.77

問：真識見聞與緣照知，有何差別？釋曰：七識緣照身者，但於妄想緣起法中分別緣知。又於真法分別緣法，不能離緣。真法身者遠妄想心，照明清淨法界，顯自心源，名為見聞，非分別知。

Question: What is the difference between the true consciousness seeing and hearing versus the conditioned-illuminating cognition? Explanation: The seventh consciousness's conditioned-illumination of the body merely discerns and cognizes within phenomena that arise conditioned by deluded thoughts; furthermore, in discerning conditioned phenomena with respect to the true Dharma, it cannot transcend conditions. The true dharmakāya, on the other hand, is far removed from the mind of deluded thought, clearly illuminates the pure dharmadhātu, and reveals the source of one's own mind; this is called seeing and hearing, not discursive discerning.
