3.315

外緣中二：先、明行時未滿；後、遇緣不勝。此中有四句：一、觀佛色。二、供大眾。三、劣友勸。四、學他教。此等並非菩薩悲智之心，故退失也。

Under external conditions there are two: first, clarifying that the time of practice is not yet fulfilled; second, encountering conditions that are not superior. Here there are four phrases: 1. contemplating the Buddha’s physical form; 2. making offerings to the great assembly; 3. being exhorted by an inferior friend; 4. emulating the teaching of others. None of these is the bodhisattva’s mind of compassion and wisdom; therefore they retrogress and fall away.
