第三、勤修二善，即作持門也。此釋相中有二：初、約緣修行；二、「以愛敬三寶」下，辨修行成益。益中亦二：初、生智益；次、「又因佛法僧力」下，明滅障益。又敬之與愛成於四句：一、愛而非敬，如母於子等。二、敬而非愛，如僕於主等。三、亦敬亦愛，如修行者於三寶等。四、非敬非愛，如怨家等。

The third is diligently cultivating the two goods, which is the gate of action-observance. In this explanation of characteristics there are two parts: first, cultivating in relation to conditions; second, from “because of a [mind] that cherishes and reveres the three jewels” onward, discerning the benefits achieved by practice. In the benefits there are also two parts: first, the benefit of generating wisdom; next, from “Furthermore, being protected by the power of the Buddha, Dharma, and Saṅgha” onward, clarifying the benefit of eradicating obstacles. Furthermore, reverence and love form four alternatives: 1. love without reverence, like a mother toward her child; 2. reverence without love, like a servant toward their master; 3. both reverence and love, like a practitioner toward the three jewels; 4. neither reverence nor love, like toward enemies.
