3.41

釋中，初、麁者至初地離，後、細者至佛地盡故也，此即是上染心所依無明住地，能染真如成染心故。上云「破和合識」者，滅無明故。「滅相續心」者，斷染心故。今無明與染心雖說有前後，然治滅並一時也。

In the explanation, first, the coarse is separated from up to the first ground, and afterwards, the subtle is exhausted up to the Buddha ground. This is the avidyā-entrenched ground upon which the defiled mind above relies, which can defile tathatā to form the defiled mind. When it was said above that one 'breaks the composite consciousness', it is because avidyā is extinguished. When it was said that one 'extinguishes the continuing mind', it is because the defiled mind is severed. Now, although avidyā and the defiled mind are spoken of as having a before and after, their antidotal eradication occurs simultaneously.
