From "Because of the power of the perfuming" onward answers the second question. Therein, [the text] first distinguishes the causes of practice, meaning that because of the power of perfuming by hearing and the internal perfuming of innate enlightenment, together with the power of wholesome roots cultivated in previous lives, one is able to believe in karma and its retribution, and therefore casts aside evil to follow good and cultivate the share of meritorious virtue. The phrase "detest the suffering of saṃsāra and seek bodhi" refers to accomplishing the wholesome roots conducive to bodhi (bodhipakṣya) and conducive to liberation (mokṣabhāgīya). The phrase "encounter Buddhas and cultivate the mind of faith" clarifies the conditions for practice, meaning that based on these conditions one cultivates the practices of the ten kinds of mind of faith.
