Non-enlightenment is the second meaning within the ālayavijñāna, not lacking luminous awareness. It is another name for fundamental ignorance, and is also called delusion, perplexity, un-knowing, and so forth; this clarifies the meaning of the mind's arising and ceasing in terms of defiled dharmas. However, arising is unreal arising, and ceasing is loss and perishing. Its three sections are also named: first, essence; next, marks; and afterwards, concluding that the marks are identical with essence.
