11.67

又為下，二、總通前五。三細功能者，以第八識能集種子起現行故。後二功能者，於中但約分別不斷而分二異。故《攝論》云：意識緣三世境等。即斯義也。

"Also, being..." below: second, comprehensively encompassing the preceding five. The functions of the three subtle marks are because the eighth consciousness is able to gather seeds and give rise to active manifestations. The functions of the latter two are divided into two distinct aspects solely in terms of uninterrupted conceptual differentiation. Hence the Mahāyānasaṃgraha says: "The mental consciousness cognizes the objects of the three times," etc., which is precisely this meaning.
