[Regarding the text of the] commentary: From "Question: The Buddha's body..." downward, 2. A detailed presentation of questions and answers, having fourteen in total: First, the objection that the Buddha's body and worldlings' consciousness are not distinguished. As for "sentient beings' consciousness", because the śāstra states that they do not know it is manifested by the transforming consciousness (pravṛtti-vijñāna), the intent is to clarify that the Buddha's body is manifested by the transforming consciousness, yet worldlings and followers of the Hinayana do not know this. Now the intent of the question is: the transforming consciousness is with outflows (sāsrava) and belongs to sentient beings. The responsive body is without outflows (anāsrava) and naturally belongs to the Buddha. Why is the pure body [said to be] only this defiled consciousness? Is this not failing to distinguish between worldling and sage, defiled and pure?
