Under "Impermanence," the Śāstra says: "All conditioned dharmas": except for the six unconditioned dharmas, the remaining four categories are all conditioned. "None can stay long": once dharmas arise, having arisen they immediately perish, like dew or lightning, unable to remain long. Thus the Precept Sūtra says: "Vigorous complexion does not stop, like a galloping horse; human life is impermanent, exceeding mountain torrents. Though surviving today, tomorrow is hard to ensure." The Impermanence Sūtra says: "Even if Mount Meru crumbles and is destroyed at the end of the kalpa, and the great ocean, deep and bottomless, also dries up, and the great earth along with the sun and moon all come to an end when the time arrives—there has never been a single thing that is not swallowed by impermanence."
