[On] "that upon which it relies." Commentary: "Attachment to view in one locus" and so forth is one count among the five stages of entrenchment. This is the coarse delusion of conceptual differentiation in the three realms. Arising from delusion regarding principle, it is severed in the locus of the path of vision, and is therefore called "delusion [severed on] the path of vision." The three attachments of desire, form, and [formless] existence are the innate subtle delusions of the three realms. Arising from delusion regarding phenomena, they are eliminated and severed in the station of the path of cultivation, and are therefore called "delusion [severed on] the path of cultivation." "Through these" and so on means that through these afflictions of views and attachments perfuming the eighth [consciousness], the seeds of the sixth [consciousness] within that consciousness are caused to increase and grow, and thus they arise in active manifestation. "The above six" and so on is subsumption under categories. However, grasping and conceptualizing names belong precisely to this consciousness, while the mark of initiating karma is produced by this; karma resulting in total and specific retribution is created by this consciousness. Now, speaking of what is created in terms of that which creates, it is also subsumed under this consciousness; hence it is said that it enters by following in association. Combining these two marks among the six defilements constitutes a single defilement, which belongs precisely to this consciousness.
