[On the section] "Contrasting to Reveal [the Marks]."

Commentary: Regarding "both are named coarse," the cognition of conceptual differentiation and so forth all arise due to external sense objects. Regarding "still coarser," greed, anger, views, attachment, and grasping onto self and what belongs to self cause attachment to grow increasingly profound.

Treatise: "The realm of ordinary beings" is because it is the realm awakened to and eliminated by those internal ordinary beings. In fact, it is also the realm of the two vehicles; here, for textual convenience, it is abbreviated and unstated. Regarding "the ten stages and so forth," within this, the first stage to the seventh stage awaken to the subtle within the coarse, while the eighth and ninth stages awaken to the coarse within the subtle. Here, following the general sense, it simply states "the bodhisattva stages."
