Remedying heterodox attachments: deviating from the real is called 'heterodox'; grasping and adhering is called 'attachment'; confronting them mutually is called 'remedying (dui)'; attacking them is called 'curing (zhi)'. Thus, the previous correct doctrine was that which remedies, and the present heterodox attachments are that which is remedied. Once the correct doctrine is revealed, the heterodox attachments perish on their own. Now he describes and explains their characteristics. The treatise: 'All, etc.' directly establishes the proposition. 'If one departs from, etc.' reveals it by negation. The self is the root, and arisings also stem from it; hence it is said: 'existing dependent on the self, and non-existent apart from the self.'
