Regarding “The Avataṃsaka” and so forth: Citing scriptural proof. The three are without distinction: that is, the mind of sentient beings is the Buddha's mind, and the Buddha's mind is the mind of sentient beings. Furthermore, sentient beings are sentient beings within the Buddha's mind, and the Buddha is the Buddha within sentient beings' minds. This is because the characteristics of sentient beings and Buddhas share the same single mind-essence without distinction. Regarding “Because of the same essence” and so forth: The meaning is: not only does the mind-essence illuminate dharmas, but it can also give rise to great spiritual functions to benefit and gladden sentient beings. This precisely means: giving rise to the mark of inconceivable karma on the basis of the mark of pure wisdom, and functioning as the mirror of conditioning vāsanā on the basis of the mirror of dharma-emergence.
