From "Question: As..." onward is the second: sorting out with reference to the general, which has two parts: first, the question. "Past lives," etc.: As explained before, those from the three worthies upward to the Buddhas can serve as distinctive conditions for the two vehicles and ordinary people. Now, when what appears in concentration is seen and heard identically, how can one know heterodoxy from orthodoxy?
