In the concise listing, the Commentary states: "That which is established..." and so forth: that is, the meanings of the One Mind dharma, two gates, and three greatnesses established in the preceding section are manifested and revealed to give rise to correct understanding. Since it is understanding of the correct meaning, this constitutes correct understanding. "Dispelling deviant attachments": those that are not the correct principle, giving rise falsely to attachments, are quite serious afflictions and certainly should be eliminated and cleansed. "Heading toward the correct..." and so forth: in generating the resolve to head toward the path, there are differences in the marks of practice, with variations in rising and falling; these must now be differentiated so that one's cultivation and realization are free of delusion and confusion. Thus, the correct meaning is revealed to cause understanding; false attachments are countered to cause dispelling; and the marks of the path are differentiated to cause practice. Furthermore, the correct meaning is that which counters, false attachments are what is countered, the correct meaning is that toward which one heads, and the marks of the path are that which heads toward it. It is entirely for the sake of the correct meaning that the latter two passages exist.
