1.50

「『吾以不復用兵器，等行慈心却魔怨；
世用兵器動人心，而我以等汝眾生。
若調象馬雖已調，然後故態會復生；
若得最調如佛性，已如佛調無不仁。』

"‘I no longer make use of weapons,
Practicing equal loving-kindness to repel the demon foes;
The world uses weapons to disturb the minds of men,
Whereas I treat your living beings with equality.
Though an elephant or horse is tamed,
Its old nature will eventually resurface;
Yet if one attains supreme taming like the Buddha-nature,
Once tamed as the Buddha is, there is none not benevolent.’
