Knowing that the dharmatā is free from stinginess, greed, and so forth, is understanding. According with it and cultivating dāna and so forth is practice. The Sanskrit dāna is translated here as giving. Śīla is translated here as morality. Kṣānti is translated here as patience. Vīrya is translated here as vigor. Dhyāna is translated here as calm contemplation, and also translated as cultivation of thought. Prajñā is translated here as discernment, and also translated as wisdom.
The marks of cultivating the six perfections are fully explained in the 'Chapter on the Ten Dedications' of the Avataṃsaka-sūtra. They are either the understanding and practice of partial truth, or the understanding and practice of resemblance. Partial truth applies solely to the real; resemblance applies to both provisional and real. One should reflect on this through the two meanings of perfect integration and sequential arrangement.
The second section, explaining the arousal of the mind through understanding and practice, is concluded.
