"Although those bodhisattvas who are initial learners cultivate faith, because from past lives they have many heavy sins and evil karmic obstacles, they may be troubled by demons and heretics, entangled in worldly affairs, or pressed by conditions of various illnesses. Obstacles such as these are not just one, causing the practitioner to abandon the cultivation of wholesome categories. Therefore, one should be courageous and vigorous, during the six periods of the day and night prostrating to the buddhas, making offerings, praising, repenting, entreating, rejoicing, and dedicating [merit] toward unsurpassed bodhi, giving rise to great vows without resting, causing evil obstacles to be eliminated and wholesome roots to increase."
