Question: Since the self and the like are grasped by sentiment as existent, but are originally non-existent among dharmas, what is called a truth? Answer: Ordinary beings grasp the aggregates as a self. The aggregates, conforming to the grasp of sentiment, are called the self and person, and are spoken of as conventional truth; it is not that there are entirely no dharmas. As for the ultimate truth, the noble ones know that the aggregates are neither self nor belonging to self; the aggregates, in accord with noble understanding, are spoken of as non-self and termed ultimate truth; neither is this a non-existence of dharmas.
