In the third provisionality, dharmas are not of one kind; among them, long and short, large and small, high and low, that and this, coming and going, noble and base, good and bad—all such [relations] are mutually dependent (相待). For instance, if an object of one zhang is not contrasted with five chi, the characteristic of 'long' does not arise, nor does the name 'long' occur; due to being contrasted with five chi, the characteristic of 'long' is first distinguished and the name 'long' can arise—this is called provisionality of mutual dependence; all are like this. In the fourth provisionality, dharmas are also not of one kind; as long as dharmas arise from the former to the latter, contiguous in sequence, they are all called continuity (相續).
