11.10

第五門中長短分別。如《毘婆娑》說：煗頂善根一向相續，忍法之中或是相續、或是一念，中下二忍多念相續、上品之忍局唯一念。世第一法局唯一念。若依《成實》，煗等四種並皆相續，一念之心不能具觀四真諦故。長短如是。

In the fifth portal, the length of duration is differentiated. As stated in the *Vibhāṣā*, the roots of goodness of warmth and summit are strictly in continuous succession; within the dharma of forbearance, it is either in continuous succession or of a single thought-moment: the medium and lower two forbearances are in continuous succession across many thought-moments, while the highest grade of forbearance is strictly limited to a single thought-moment. The highest worldly dharma is strictly limited to a single thought-moment. According to the *Tattvasiddhi*, all four, warmth and the rest, are in continuous succession, because a mind of a single thought-moment cannot fully contemplate the four noble truths. Such is length of duration.
