In the sixth portal, differentiation is made according to realms. "Realms" refers to the three realms. Treatise masters differ, and their statements vary. According to Venerable Dharmatrāta, the roots of goodness such as warmth are subsumed solely by the form realm, because in the form realm there is comprehensive conditioning knowledge capable of contemplating the four noble truths above and below. Within the wholesome of the form realm there are the mobile and the immobile: the lower among the mobile is called warmth, and the upper is called summit; the lower among the immobile is called forbearance, and the upper is called the highest. For what reason are they not subsumed by the desire realm? Because according to that school, the desire realm is entirely without meditative absorption, so one cannot cultivate and arouse them based upon it. For what reason are they not subsumed by the formless realm? In the formless realm there is no comprehensive conditioning knowledge, so it cannot contemplate the four noble truths below. Because that mind is subtle and weak, it is not comprehensive. Venerable Ghoṣaka says that warmth and the rest are subsumed by both the desire realm and the form realm, but not the formless realm. He states that the desire realm also has six dhyāna absorptions upon which one can cultivate and arouse them; hence they are subsumed by the desire realm. The form realm is understood. What is subsumed by the desire realm is called mobile: the lower among the mobile is called warmth, and the upper is called summit. What is subsumed by the form realm is called immobile: the lower among the immobile is called forbearance, and the upper is called the highest. For what reason are they not subsumed by the formless realm? This is as explained before. The Mahāsāṃghika school states that they are subsumed by the three realms. They say that the desire realm has dhyāna absorption upon which one cultivates and arouses them, so they are subsumed by the desire realm. The form realm is understood. The formless realm can comprehensively contemplate the four truths above, so they are subsumed by the formless realm. According to this explanation, based upon formless absorption, one enters the path of seeing from above. The masters of the *Tattvasiddhi-śāstra* agree with this latter explanation. A brief account of the four minds of warmth and the rest is thus.
