Eighth, distinguishing in terms of the three abandonments. Cessation through deliberation is unabandoned, because it is an unconditioned dharma. Its attainment is unfixed, being either abandoned by the path of cultivation or unabandoned. The attainment of cessation through deliberation by tainted conventional knowledge is abandoned by the path of cultivation. The attainment of cessation through deliberation by untainted noble knowledge that severs conditioning bonds is unabandoned. Cessation through non-deliberation of conditions is in its essence unabandoned, because it is an unconditioned dharma; its attainment is categorically abandoned by the path of cultivation. Impermanent cessation possesses all three kinds: the destruction of afflictions abandoned by seeing is abandoned by seeing; the destruction of afflictions abandoned by cultivation is abandoned by cultivation; the destruction of untainted dharmas is unabandoned. Its attainment is also of three kinds, which can be known by analogy with the preceding.
