Ninth, distinguishing in terms of the fruit of the path. The unconditioned of cessation through deliberation is the fruit of the path, up to the unconditioned of cessation through deliberation of conventional knowledge: being sealed and verified by the path, it is generically the fruit of the path. Its attainment is either the path, the fruit of the path, or neither the path nor the fruit of the path. The attainment of cessation through deliberation in the untainted cause is termed the path; the attainment in the fruit is termed the fruit of the path. The attainment of cessation through deliberation by tainted conventional knowledge is neither the path nor the fruit. Cessation through non-deliberation of conditions is not the fruit of the path, and its attainment is neither the path nor the fruit of the path, because it is an indeterminate dharma. Impermanent cessation is either the path or not the fruit of the path, which refers to impermanent cessation in the path towards [the fruit]; being a coexistent cause with the noble path, it is generically called the path. Or some are both the path and the fruit of the path, [such as] impermanence in the fruit. Or some are neither the path nor the fruit of the path, [such as] tainted impermanence. Their attainments are likewise.
