20.46

次第三門約就理事而事辨寬狹。真諦名理，世諦名事。通知名寬，別知名狹。就十力中，初處非處及至處道，名體俱寬。初力之中，通就一切說是說非，故名是寬；力實通知理事是非，故體是寬。至處道中五度門等為至處道，是其事也。如《地持》說「空無我理為至處道。」是其理也。名中彰此，故名是寬；力實知此，故體是寬。漏盡一力，名狹體寬。名彰知盡，故名是狹；理實此力知盡是事、證盡知理，若不知理漏終不盡，體具斯義故體是寬。餘之七力，名體俱狹。名唯彰事，故名是狹；體唯知事，故體是狹。寬狹如是（此二門竟）。

Next, the third section distinguishes broad and narrow in terms of principle and phenomena. Ultimate truth is called principle, and conventional truth is called phenomena. Knowing comprehensively is called broad; knowing specifically is called narrow. Among the ten powers, the first, the power of knowing what is possible and impossible, and the power of knowing the paths leading to all destinations, are broad in both name and essence. In the first power, because it comprehensively addresses all things to state what is possible and what is impossible, its name is broad; because the power actually comprehensively knows principle and phenomena, what is possible and what is impossible, its essence is broad. In the path leading to all destinations, the five gates of deliverance and so forth serve as the paths leading to destinations, which are its phenomena. As the Bodhisattvabhūmi says: 'The principle of emptiness and non-self is the path leading to destinations'—this is its principle. Because the name reveals this, its name is broad; because the power actually knows this, its essence is broad. The single power of the destruction of the outflows is narrow in name but broad in essence. Because its name reveals knowing the destruction, its name is narrow; yet in reality this power knows the destruction as a phenomenon and realizes the destruction by knowing the principle—if one did not know the principle, outflows would ultimately not be destroyed—and because its essence possesses this meaning, its essence is broad. The remaining seven powers are narrow in both name and essence. Because their names reveal only phenomena, their names are narrow; because their essences know only phenomena, their essences are narrow. Broad and narrow are like this (this concludes the second section).
