次第三門長短分別。約時辨之。時謂三世。十力之中宿命一力，前長後短。前知無窮，名為前長；不知後世，故名後短。天眼一力，前短後長。不知過去，名為前短；能知現在及未來世，說為後長。餘八所知統通三世，前後俱長。辨相如是。

Next, the third section distinguishes long and short. It is explained in terms of time. Time refers to the three times. Among the ten powers, the single power of past lives is long in the past and short in the future. Knowing the past without limit is called long in the past; not knowing future lives is called short in the future. The single power of the divine eye is short in the past and long in the future. Not knowing the past is called short in the past; being able to know the present and future lives is called long in the future. What is known by the remaining eight comprehensively encompasses the three times, being both long in the past and long in the future. The characteristics are thus distinguished.
