Next, the fifth section determines superiority and inferiority. As the Bodhisattvabhūmi states: "From below a Buddha downwards, the accumulation of merit of all sentient beings equals a single body-hair mark of the Tathāgata. The accumulation of merit of all the body-hair marks equals one of that Tathāgata's secondary signs. The accumulation of merit of all the secondary signs, multiplied a hundredfold, then attains one major mark, excluding the white curl mark, the uṣṇīṣa mark, and the Brahmā-voice mark; excluding these three marks, one attains the remaining marks. The accumulation of merit of all the remaining marks, multiplied a thousandfold, attains the white curl mark. The merit of the white curl mark, multiplied a hundred-thousandfold, then attains the uṣṇīṣa and invisible crown mark. The merit of the white curl mark, multiplied a hundred-thousand times ten-millionfold, then attains the Tathāgata's Dharma-conch voice mark. Therefore, when the Tathāgata emits sound as he wills, the pure Brahmā-voice reaches even to the measureless worlds of the ten directions. Such is the Tathāgata's measureless and boundless accumulation of merit, inconceivable." The preceding one section clarified the fruit of marks and signs.
