Next, explaining the five fruits in relation to sāsrava and anāsrava causes. Sāsrava has three types: first, wholesome; second, unwholesome; third, indeterminate. Wholesome has two types: first, wholesome that severs fetters, namely the mundane unhindered path; second, that which does not sever fetters, namely all wholesome dharmas of the desire realm, and all wholesome dharmas of liberation and superior progress within the eight dhyānas. As for the number of fruits obtained by the wholesome that severs fetters, the treatises explain it differently. According to the Abhidharma, it can obtain five fruits: because this wholesome dharma can obtain wholesome retribution, there is the fruition fruit; because those of the same category arise from one another, there is the reliance fruit; because among those simultaneous, associated and coexistent [factors] mutually support and accomplish, there is the exertion fruit; because it does not obstruct the myriad dharmas, there is the sovereign fruit; and because it severs fetters, there is the fruit of disjunction. If according to the *Bodhisattvabhūmi*, it only obtains four fruits, excluding the fruit of disjunction, because mundane severing of fetters is not liberation. That which does not sever fetters can obtain four fruits, excluding the fruit of disjunction. Wholesome dharmas are like this. Unwholesome dharmas also obtain four fruits. Indeterminate dharmas can obtain three fruits: excluding the fruit of disjunction and the fruition fruit, the remaining three types exist. Sāsrava is like this. Within anāsrava dharmas, there are two types: first, anāsrava that severs fetters, namely the unhindered path of seeing and cultivation; second, that which does not sever fetters, namely all anāsrava wholesome dharmas of liberation and superior progress. The anāsrava that severs fetters can obtain four fruits, excluding that fruition fruit, because anāsrava dharmas do not obtain retribution. That which does not sever fetters can obtain three fruits, excluding the fruit of disjunction and the fruition fruit. (Here ends this fifth section).
