Next, we elucidate obtaining fruitions with respect to the ten indeterminate causes of internal phenomena. Excluding the contrary cause, the remaining nine causes can obtain three fruitions, namely the dependent fruition, the virile fruition, and the sovereign fruition. The conventional, embracing, and non-contrary causes obtain the sovereign fruition. The cause through existence can obtain three fruitions: because there exist the six faculties and external sense fields giving rise to indeterminate mind, this is the sovereign fruition; because a person can give rise to it, this is the virile fruition; with the preceding giving rise to the succeeding, this is the dependent fruition. The planting cause can obtain three fruitions, identical to [the cause through] existence. The generating cause, growing cause, and own-seed cause can obtain the dependent fruition, because they arise as of an identical kind. The cause of common purpose also obtains three fruitions, identical to the above from [the cause through] existence down to own-seed. The contrary cause, in view of its destroying those phenomena, acts as the sovereign fruition. However, because this indeterminate [cause] is not a retributive cause, it lacks the retributive fruition. Because it is not untainted, it lacks the fruition of liberation. (This concludes the second section.)
