次約起時以辨多少。寤時起貪，三蓋並生，謂貪睡掉；眠中起貪，四蓋並生，於前三上更加一眠，瞋疑及悔，類皆同爾，與貪相似。寤時起睡，二蓋並生，謂睡與掉；眠中起睡，三蓋並生，於前二上更加一眠。體相如是。

Next, distinguishing quantity according to the time of arising. When greed arises while awake, three hindrances arise together—namely, greed, torpor, and restlessness; when greed arises during sleep, four hindrances arise together, adding sleep on top of the preceding three. Anger, doubt, and remorse are all similarly categorized, resembling greed. When torpor arises while awake, two hindrances arise together—namely, torpor and restlessness; when torpor arises during sleep, three hindrances arise together, adding sleep on top of the preceding two. Such are their essential characteristics.
