7.55

次就趣論。趣謂五趣。若依毘曇、成實法中，人天二趣具起九業，餘之三趣唯起欲界三種之業，自餘六業皆悉不起。依《雜阿含》天品之中有鬼神母，名富那婆藪，佛為說法得入聖道。案如彼文，鬼道亦得起無漏業。方等經中亦同彼說。然彼既能起無漏業，明知亦能起上界業，以無漏法依禪生故。九業如是。

Next, discussing them according to destiny: 'destiny' refers to the five destinies. According to the systems of the Abhidharma and the *Tattvasiddhi*, the two destinies of humans and devas fully generate all nine karmas; the remaining three destinies generate only the three kinds of karma of the desire realm, and do not generate any of the remaining six karmas. According to the 'Deva Chapter' of the *Saṃyuktāgama*, there is a spirit mother named Punabbasu (Funanpoxiu) to whom the Buddha preached the Dharma, and she attained entry into the noble path. Based on that text, the ghost destiny can also generate untainted karma. The Vaipulya sūtras also agree with that statement. Since they can generate untainted karma, it is clear that they can also generate karma of the higher realms, because untainted dharmas arise in reliance upon dhyāna. The nine karmas are thus.
