次辨寬狹。如《雜心》問：為生攝趣？為趣攝生？論自釋言「四生攝趣，非趣攝生。何故如是？一切五趣無出四生，故生攝趣。五道中陰皆是化生，五趣不收，是故五趣不攝四生。」四生之義，略辨如是。

Next, explaining broad and narrow scope. As asked in the Saṃyuktābhidharmahṛdaya: Do the modes of birth subsume the destinies, or do the destinies subsume the modes of birth? The treatise itself explains: "The four modes of birth subsume the destinies; the destinies do not subsume the modes of birth. Why is this so? None of the five destinies fall outside the four modes of birth; therefore, the modes of birth subsume the destinies. The intermediate states of the five destinies are all apparitional birth, yet are not included within the five destinies; therefore, the five destinies do not subsume the four modes of birth." The meaning of the four modes of birth is thus briefly distinguished.
