Question: When the bodhisattvas abide in the dharma-realm, since they are seen from the perspective of bodhisattvas, and the Tathāgata is also among them, is he also seen from the perspective of the Tathāgata or not? Explanation: This is not comparable. The Tathāgata complies with what you see; how could the Tathāgata ever have seeing or not-seeing? Therefore the sūtra says: 'In order to comply with sentient beings, / He universally enters all worldly realms. / His wisdom is ever tranquil, / Unlike what the world sees.' Therefore one must not take the Tathāgata as an analogy. The Tathāgata is neither seen nor not-seen; from your perspective he is seen, and from your perspective he is not-seen. Since seeing and not-seeing are 'from perspectives', one thereby knows that the Way is neither seen nor not-seen. It is also like this now: from the perspective of the two vehicles there is duality; from the perspective of bodhisattvas there is non-duality. Since duality and non-duality are 'from perspectives', one thereby knows that the Way is neither dual nor non-dual. These three stages are all 'from perspectives' and are not the correct Way.
