This is the third treatise, which clarifies the causes and conditions to unfold the teaching of prajñā. Stating 'prajñā' is Sanskrit; here it means wisdom. 'Without knowing' simply means having no cognition that grasps marks. Ordinary people all say that prajñā is knowledge and therefore possesses knowing; if it has knowing, then it has grasping and attachment; if it has grasping and attachment, it does not accord with non-arising. Now it is clarified that the true wisdom of prajñā has no grasping and no conditioning objects; although it realizes the ultimate truth, it does not grasp marks, and hence is called 'without knowing'.
