"Kāśyapa went and said to the Buddha: 'I pray that the Great Man of the Way will remain here and not journey far away; I myself shall supply you with food.' He immediately returned and instructed his household to prepare fine food the next day and set out a couch and seat. When it was time for the meal, he went himself to invite the Buddha. The Buddha said: 'Go ahead, and I shall follow shortly.' Just as Kāśyapa departed, in the time it takes a man to bend and extend his arm, the Buddha went east several thousand billions of leagues to the borders of Pūrvavideha, gathered the fruit of a tree called jambū, filled his bowl with it, and returned. Before Kāśyapa arrived, the Buddha was already seated upon his couch. When Kāśyapa arrived afterward, he asked: 'By what road did the Great Man of the Way come?' The Buddha said: 'Just as you departed, I went east to the land of Pūrvavideha and gathered jambū fruit, which is fragrant, delicious, and edible.' [Kāśyapa] then took it and ate it. Having eaten his meal, the Buddha departed. Kāśyapa still thought: 'Although this great śramaṇa is spiritual, he is not equal to my Way, which is real!'
